What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics — TAP-ONE Glossary

A free tool that tracks website visitor behavior — traffic sources, pages viewed, time on site, and more.

Google Analytics (opens in new tab) is a free web analytics platform that tracks how visitors interact with a website — where they came from, which pages they viewed, how long they stayed, and whether they completed key actions. It is the most widely used analytics tool for small and large businesses alike.

The One Setup Step Most Businesses Skip

Installing Analytics is easy, but defining what actually counts as a conversion, a completed booking, a form submission, a WhatsApp click, is the step that turns raw traffic numbers into something genuinely useful. Without that setup, a business can see visitor counts but still has no real way to know whether the website is actually generating business.

Pairing it with Google Search Console also fills in the other half of the picture, showing not just what visitors did on the site but what they searched to find it in the first place.

Is Google Analytics necessary for a small local business website?

It’s strongly recommended even for a simple site — without it, there’s no way to know which marketing channels are actually driving visits or bookings.
